Habib-ur-Rehman, Mehtab Hussain left out of Olympic qualifiers
New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) Habib-ur-Rehman Mondal and Mehtab Hussain were left out of the 19-member Indian football squad which will face Iraq in their first second round match of the Beijing Olympics qualification in Amman, Jordan on February 27.
The squad was pruned down from the 25 called for a camp in Kolkata from February 20 and Subhas Chakraborty was the only new face from the team which beat Myanmar in the first round.
India have been clubbed with Iraq, Thailand and North Korea in Group E and Amman has been selected as venue of Iraq's home match due to the unstable condition in the Gulf state.
All of India's home matches -- on March 14 (against Thailand), March 28 (North Korea) and May 16 (Iraq) -- will be played in Chennai while the two remaining away matches are scheduled for April 18 (North Korea) and June 6 (Thailand).
The 24-team second round, which has been split into six groups of four each, runs through February 27 to June 6 with the top two teams in each group advancing to the final round. Three group winners and China, which got automatic qualification as hosts, will represent Asia in the Beijing Olympic Games.
