Gulf monsoon scooter rally to be held on July 29
Mumbai, Jul 23 (UNI) The annual Gulf Monsoon Scooter Rally, scheduled for July 1 but forced to be cancelled because of the heavy rain that lashed Mumbai on June 30, will run on July 29.
The event, sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation Limited and organised by Sportscraft, is being held under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, a release said here today.
Thirty-five entries, including one from Kolkata, have been received.
Last year's champion Kunal Rao will have a stiff fight on his hands from the likes of former champions Shamim Khan of Nashik and Mumbai's Manjit Singh Bassan and Rustom Patel.
In addition to Khan, Bassan and Patel, seasoned two-wheeler racing campaigners Nilesh Thakre, Afzal Khan and Ganesh Lohkhande are expected to give Rao a strong challenge.
Pre-event scrutiny for riders and their scooter will be held on July 28, between 1400 and 1600 hours, at Our Lady's Home, 205, Dr Ambedkar Road, Dadar, the release stated.
The riders will be flagged off on July 29 at Our Lady's Home, Dadar, at 0830 hrs and proceed to Vashi, which forms most of the competitive sector, before finishing at K Stars Hotel, Plot No 46&55 Sector 11 CBD Belapur New Mumbai, the release added.
