Govt to fill 10% vacancies in police dept through sports quota

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 13 (UNI) Kerala Sports Minister M Vijayakumar today said the government would take immediate steps to fill the 10 per cent vacancies in the police department through sports quota.

Talking at a function in connection with distributing financial assistance, released by the state Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry for sports development, he claimed that in the last ten yers the police department did not recruit anyone through sports quota.

He said the government's decision was to include sports in its syllabus as part of public education.

Local self-government Minister Paloli Mohammad Kutty, who inaugurated the function, said for the development of sports in the state special training was required.

The main issue faced by the sports sector was not lack of sportspersons but insufficient fund, he said, adding that a fixed amount would be earmarked from the Panchayat Development Fund for the development of sports.
