Govt releases grant of Rs one cr for Chennai Open 2008

Chennai, Aug 21 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today released a grant of Rs one crore for the ATP tour event, Chennai Open 2008, scheduled to be held here from December 31 to January six.

The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDATN), in a press release said, ''After the government issued a G O, Sports Minister Mohideen Khan handed over the cheque to the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association President R Ganapathy.'' The government also issued a G O for an interest free advance of Rs 2.5 crore for the conduct of the tournament, the release added.

Chennai Open was being conducted for the past ten years and after 2005, it was decided to conduct the prestigious tournament for five years through a Consortium of Sponsors and name it as Chennai Open Championship.
