Govt orders probe into Sports Council functioning
Kochi, Aug 25 (UNI) The Kerala Government has ordered a vigilance probe into complaints against the functioning of the pevious Kerala Sports Council, state Sports Minister M Vijaykumar said today.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Vijaykumar said the LDF Government was committed to taking all-round steps for the promotion of sports in the state.
He said Kerala has expressed willingness to host the 2009 National Games. The other contender for the games is Uttar Pradesh.
If Kerala is selected to host the games, it would lead to infrastructure and other development works worth Rs 300 crore, he added.
The newly laid synthetic track at the Maharaja College Ground here would be inaugurated on August 30. The track, which had cost about Rs 3.85 crore, would provide an ideal training ground for atheletes in the state, he said.
Mr Vijaykumar said the work on the Rs six crore Munnar High Altitude Sports Centre would be speeded up.
Stating that ''Sports For All'' was the motto of Kerala's sports policy, the minister said every public sector undertaking in the state should strive to have a team in at least one discipline.
