GNDU honours Doha gold medallist Mandeep Kaur
Amritsar, Jan 12 (UNI) Guru Nanak Dev University honoured Doha Asian Games gold medallist in 4x400M, Mandeep Kaur, at a specially organised function here today.
The Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jai Rup Singh, while presenting Ms Kaur with a cash prize of Rs 25000 and a memento, hailed her achievement as a great honour to the country, the state and the Guru Nanak Dev University. Mandeep is a student of BA First year of BBK DAV college for Women, Amritsar.
Dr Singh also announced that apart from imparting free education to Mandeep Kaur, the University would also bear all expenses on her training. He said that she would also be adopted under the UGC Centre for Potential for Excellence in Sports setup at the University campus.
The Vice-Chancellor also announced that the University would also honour those students of the University and of its affiliated colleges who brings laurels to the University in academics, sports and cultural fields.
To boost and encourage the University sports, Dr Jai Rup Singh also announced to enhance the cash prize money of its sports personnel and international position holders. Mandeep Kaur is the first women athlete of the University who had been honoured with the enhanced prize money of Rs 25000, he said.
