GMS Patiala, Sain Das Jalandhar register wins

Chandigarh, Jan 12 (UNI) Government Multipurpose School of Patiala beat Vidya Mandir School Ludhiana by two wickets in the PCA-Parle Super League-cum-knockout Inter-School Cricket Tournament at the PCA Stadium in Mohali today.

After winning the toss KVM batted first. Opener Abhishek (46) and Salil Verma (23) gave them a good start as they put on 62 runs for the opening wicket partnership but the middle order could not capitalise on the good work as KVM could muster only 179 for 6 in 45 overs with Gusai chipping in with 24. Jaspinder Singh bagged two wickets for 23 runs.

Chasing a victory target of 180 runs, GMS Patiala started badly as they lost three quick wickets for 23 runs. A 56-run partnership by Gurmukh Singh (28) and S Rajdhan (31) tilted the match in favour of the Patiala School. Sandeep Sharma remained not out on 22 as they made 180 for 8 in 43.5 overs.

In another match played at the DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 here, Sain Das Senior Secondary School of Jalandhar defeated Hindu Sabha by 72 runs.

Hindu Sabha School won the toss and asked SDSS to bat first.

With the help of Nitish (47) and Hunny (33), Sain Das scored 191 before they were dismissed in 49 overs. Jaswant (3 for 24) was the main wicket taker for Hindu Sabha School.

In reply, the Hindu Sabha batsmen could not face the onslaught of Angad (3/34) and Pargat Singh (2/21) and were all out for 119 in 41 overs. Sandeep made a defiant 42.
