Ghei tied 3rd but seven Indians miss cut at Beijing Open

Beijing, Apr 27 (UNI) As many as seven Indians missed the halfway cut but overnight leader Gaurav Ghei kept the tri-colour fluttering despite slipping to tied third after an even-par second round at the five lakh dollar Pine Valley Beijing Open here today.

Among other Indians who progressed to weekend's play were Amandeep Johl at tied 40th and SSP Chowrasia at tied 53rd.

Gurbaaz Mann was unlucky to miss the cut, which was applied at even par, by a single stroke.

However, Uttam Singh Mundy, Harmeet Kahlon, Digvijay Singh, Rahil Gangjee, Amardip Malik, Vivek Bhandari, all played poor golf to miss out weekend action.

Ghei fired three birdies and as many bogeys to aggregate seven-under 137 to share the third spot with Australian Scott Strange, with the Thai duo of Chapchai Nirat and Panuwat Muenlek enjoying a one-stroke lead over them at tied first.

Amandeep Johl carded a vastly improved three-under 69 while Kolkata talent Chowrasia's one-under 71 just proved enough to take him through to the third and fourth rounds. Amandeep totals one-under 143 while Chowrasia aggregates even-par 144 after two rounds at the Asian Tour event.

Tied 18th overnight, Bhandari squandered away all the good work by coming up with a horrendous nine-over 81. Digvijay, Harmeet and Gangjee was no better as they carded four-over 76, five-over 77 and two-over 74 respectively.

Mundy had another poor round of one-over 73 to go with a forgettable first round score of four-over 76. But, Amardip Malik was worse, going six-over 78 today.
