Ghei reclaims top spot at Beijing Open
Beijing, Apr 28 (UNI) The Chinese capital is headed for a sensational showdown with as many as four players including India's Gaurav Ghei sharing the top spot after the penultimate round of the 5,00,000 dollar Pine Valley Beijing Open here today.
Ghei reclaimed his position atop the leaderboard with a fine four-under 68, helping himself to five birdies against two bogeys for an impressive 11-under 205.
The Delhi-based golfer enjoyed a flawless front nine to make the turn at four-under 32.
The other Indians in the fray, Kolkata talent SSP Chowrasia and Amandeep Johl, however, could not mount a serious challenge as they both were tied for the 50th spot with a round to go.
Chowrasia had an even-par 72 and Amandeep went one-over 73 to finish with identical score of even-par 216 at the Asian Tour event.
While Chowrasia fired in two birides against two dropped shots, Amandeep was at his erratic best, coming up with two double bogeys -- one on the very first hole, followed by birdie on the second and another double bogey on the third. Amandeep, however, saved his skin by reeling off five birdies compared to a couple of bogeys.
Meanwhile, atop the leaderboard Ghei shares the honours with overnight leader Panuwat Muenlek of Thailand, American Scott Strange and Australian Adam Blyth.
Yesterday, seven Indians -- Uttam Singh Mundy, Harmeet Kahlon, Digvijay Singh, Rahil Gangjee, Amardip Malik, Vivek Bhandari, Gurbaaz Mann, all played poor golf to miss the cut.
