Gerrard's injury scare sparks panic in England camp

London, May 28(ANI): England's World Cup hopes received a significant jolt when midfielder Steven Gerrard limped out of a practice match at their Austria camp.

Gerrard received treatment for 20 minutes on his right calf after taking part for only 30 seconds before signalling that he could not go on.

The 30-year-old received further treatment at the team's Schloss Pichlarn hotel and will almost certainly sit out Sunday's final warm-up friendly against Japan, The Sun reports.Meanwhile, a Football Association spokesman said that Gerrard would rejoin the squad for training on Friday.

He also said that manager Fabio Capello will view the situation with extreme caution.

It is a new concern for Capello, and comes when he was becoming increasingly confident that midfielder Gareth Barry would be fit to make a comeback.

Barry is responding well to treatment on his injured right ankle. (ANI)
