Geetha to be flag bearer of AP contingent

Hyderabad, Feb 6 (UNI) Olympian and Asian games gold medallist Sati Geetha will be the flag bearer of 400-member strong Andhra Pradesh contingent which will participate in the 33rd National Games at Guwahati from February 9-18.

The team, which left Secunderabad this morning, would reach Guwahati on February 8.

Andhra Pradesh, host of the previous edition will be taking part in 20 disciplines out of 21 it has qualified for this time. Keeping in view the problem for transportation of horses from here to Guwahati, the AP Equestrian Association has withdrawn from the competition.

Andhra Pradesh is again hoping for garnering a rich haul following enhanced cash incentives announced by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy yesterday, at a function organised by the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and AP Olympic Association.

Dr Reddy raised the cash incentives to Rs five lakh from Rs three lakh for those winning gold medals, Rs 3 lakh for silver medalists and Rs two lakh for bronze medalists in the Guwahati national games.
