Geet, Devendra Joshi crash out in quarters

Chennai, Sep 20 (UNI) Fancied Geet Sethi of Gujarat was stunned by R Girish of Tamil Nadu in the quarter finals of the Alliance Group ASCA All India Invitation snooker tournament here today.

In a close contest, Girish, dropped the opening frame, but struck form at the right moment to win by four frames to two.

Girish won 8-87, 80-12, 61-21, 52-66, 69-47, 69-21. Geet could manage just one good break of 65 in the first frame.

In fact, it was ace cueist Geet who dictated terms in the first frame and potting with aplomb. The break of 65 was enough for him to bag the first frame.

However, Geeth lost the next two frames, but recovered some lost ground by winning the fourth. But Girish tightened up the loose ends in his play and won the next two to earn a berth in the last four stage.

In another quarter final match, Manan Chandra of Delhi defeated Devendra Joshi of Maharashtra 4-0 (72-1, 68-24, 58-17, 67-17).

Joshi, who staged a brilliant come back down by three frames in the pre quarters against Shahbaz Adil Khan last night, ran out of steam and was hardly in his elements.

Results(Quarter finals): R Girish (TN) bt Geet Sethi 4-2 (8-87, 80-12, 61-21, 52-66, 69-47, 69-21).

Manan Chandra (delhi) bt Devendra Joshi 4-0 (72-1, 68-24, 58-17, 67-17).
