Fund diversion upsets adventure sports activists in Mizoram
Aizawl, Mar 27 (UNI) Adventure sports in Mizoram has suffered a serious set-back allegedly following diversion of funds meant for the purpose.
Adventure sports activists here today said that Rs 3,59,500 meant for adventure sports and five other allied events had been used for other purposes during this fiscal.
In June last, Rs 99,000 for a rotation trekking programme for college students and Rs 62,250 for a rafting-cum-expedition adventure at Chhimtuipui river were sanctioned, but both the events failed to materialise, sources said, adding that in February, 15 persons were supposed to participate in the 12th National Adventure Festival held in Chandigarh but due to inadequate funds they were unable to participate in the event.
''What makes everything so frustrating for adventure sports-lovers is that all these events had been held - but only on paper,'' said Ngurthansanga Sailo, an adventure sports activist of Mizoram.
