Four seeded players sail to round two

Thiruvanathapuram, May 15 (UNI) All the four seeded players entered the second round of the Kerala Open International Women's Tennis Tournament here today.

Top seed Agnes Szatmari of Romania and second seed Lauren Albanese of its thrashed Vishika Chhetri and Shweta Kakhandki Gadigeppa of India with an identical score of 6-3, 6-0, respectively.

The Indian players struggled hard to contain the powerful returns of their mighty and experienced rivals and surrendered meekly.

However, Indian lass Lakhani Isha had a wonderful day as she routed Italian lass Caciotti Martina in straight sets. Right from the beginning she dominated the match and won it 6-3, 6-3.

In another spirited encounter Glorgia Mortello of Italy struggled hard to beat Mariana Muci-Torres of Vietnam after losing the first set 6-7. In the second set the Italian came back and annexed the next two sets 7-5 and 6-0.

However, seventh seed Marinne Giraud (MRI) had no difficulty to pip Indian Geeta Manhar in straight sets 6-0 and 6-2.

In another singles match India's Archana Venkataraman lost to Suchanun Viratprasert of Thailand 3-6 and 4-6, while Parul Goswami lost to Italian Nicole Clerico 4-6 and 2-6.

Meghha Vakaria beat Asha Nanda Kumar 6-4 and 7-5.
