Fleming named 'Wellington Sportsman of the Year'
Wellington, June 10 (UNI) Kiwi Test captain Stephen Fleming has been named Wellington Sportsman of the Year for 2007.
The veteran left-hander, who plays his provincial cricket with State Wellington Firebirds, led the Blackcaps to the World Cup and Champions Trophy semi-finals.
Fleming also has to his credit a clean sweep over Australia in the Chappell-Hadlee series before the World Cup.
New Zealand's most successful captain stepped down from the post following a disappointing semi-final clash against Sri Lanka after doing well to progress to the Super eight stage.
Golfer Lynnette Brooky took the overall award, the Radio Sport Wellington Sportsperson of the Year.
