Five Indians make round of 32 in world U-21 snooker championships
Vasco, Aug 28 (UNI) Five out of eight Indians made the round of 32 in the Vascon-Manisha IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship at the Bogmallo Beach Resort here today.
Delhi lad Pushpender Singh was the most impressive with a 5-1 record in Group A, where he was third. Younis Kuchay from Srinagar narrowly missed second spot in Group C to Singapore's Lim Jia Sheng.
Both had the same frame difference, plus-5, but as Kuchay lost to Lim he was No 3. Thailand's Jantad topped the group.
The matches of rounds 32 and 16 will be completed tomorrow with Thailand's Passakorn, who has lost just one frame being the top seed for the knockout, followed by Daniel Wells who has lost two.
Meanwhile, China's Anda Zhang made the second century break of 126 against Dutch player Arya Sohrabi in his last group match today, where in the women's event Indian girl Arantxa Sanchis beat teammate Lavanya 3-0 to raise hopes of making the semi-finals. Anda Zhang, who had made 104 earlier, was edged to second place in Group A by Mike Georgiou of England on frame difference.
Thailand's Passakorn Suwannawat led the seedings for the knockout followed by Daniel Wells, Moh Keen Hoo, Pramual Jantad, Chinnakrit, Anda Zhang, Robbie Williams and Kristoff.
Frame difference also decided the Group C triple tie among three players. Belgian Kristoff Vermeiren topped, followed by Li Hang and Marc Davis all having 4-2 win-loss record.
