First state level school chess tourney on Sep 8 and 9
Mumbai, Sep 5 (UNI) The first-ever state level chess championship for IGCSE, ICSE and CBSE schools from Maharashtra will be held here on September 8 and 9 at the Rustomjee Cambridge International School.
The tournament will be played under the auspices of the Maharashtra Chess Association, Chanakya Chess Club and Rustomjee Cambridge International School (RCIS), a release issued here today stated.
The tournament will be held separately for boys and girls divided in the Under-7, 9, 11, 13 and 17 year categories. Nearly 300 players from Pune, Aurangabad, Nashik, Nagpur and Navi Mumbai and Mumbai coming from around 25-30 schools are expected to participate in the two day event.
The following schools Gokuldham, Thakur Public, All AVM schools, Jasudben Mehta, Rajhans Vidyalaya, Hiranandani (Thane and Powai), Chhatrabhuj Narsee, Beacon High, Ecole Mondiale, Podar Schools, St Lawrence, Gundecha, Bombay International Gopi Birla, DAV Airoli, Jamnabai Narsee, Maneckjee Cooper, Lady Visanji, Billabong Juhu, Vidyanidhi, Bhaktivedanta, Marble Arch, St Mary's Koparkhairane, Greenlawns and Dhirubhai Ambani have confirmed their participation in the tournament, the release added.
Symbiosis (Nashik), Bhavan's B P Vidyamandir (Nagpur), St Xavier's (Nagpur) have also sent in their confirmation to the organisers. The top three from each group will be awarded trophies and certificate of merit and the following seven competitors will be given consolation prizes, Dhananjay Ramraje of Chanakya Chess Club stated in the release.
