Fed Cup Cross Country at ''Sholay'' venue tomorrow

Ramnagar, Bangalore, Feb 24 (UNI) The place is better known as the venue where Bollywood blockbuster ''Sholay'' was shot but this time 220 top runners, and no film unit, will be seen in action in tomorrow's national trials for the 35th IAAF World Cross Country Championships.

Shri. Rajshekhar, Chairman of Ramnagar and Chandpattana Development Authority will inaugurate the 13th edition of the Federation Cup Cross Country Championship tomorrow at 0730 hrs at the Ramnagar Stadium in presence of Satyanarayana, Secretary of Karnataka athletic association.

Emerging runners like Ram Singh Yadav of Rajasthan and the Army duo of Sachin Sonawane and C Hamza are likely to cause upsets in the championship which acts as trial for the 35th IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, Kenya next month.

Defending champion Irappa D Akki (Army), Kamlesh Baghel (UP) and Kavita Raut (Maharashtra) are among the prominent athletes who would be challenging the upcoming runners.

Besides, old guards like Madhuri Gurnule (Maharashtra), Sita Ram (Army) and I A Shivananda (Karnataka) will also be giving their opponents a good run for their money.
