Ex-olympian Jhaman Lal Sharma dies after brain haemorrhage

Lucknow, Aug 26 (UNI) Former Indian national hockey coach and Olympian Jhaman Lal Sharma died here this morning following a brain haemorrhage.

He was 84.

According to family sources, Padamshree Jhaman Lal Sharma sliped in his bathroom at Gomtinagar residence yesterday and was rushed to the civil hospital. The Olympian went into a coma and later he was admitted to the SGPGI late last night.

His end came at 1000 hrs. He is survived by two daughters and a son. Senior journalist Deepak Sharma is the son of the Olympian.

Mr Sharma had represented the country in 1960 Olympics at Rome and later was appointed Uttar Pradesh Sports Director.

He also coached the Indian Hockey team.

The funeral service of the Olympian would be performed here this evening.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and her ministerial colleagues along with several sports personality have expressed their condolence on the demise of the Indian hockey player.
