Erratic Becker clambers past Kim in Miami

MIAMI, Jan 30 (Reuters) It was not the form that saw him beat Andre Agassi in the American's final professional tennis match, but Benjamin Becker did just enough to record a win at the 6,000 Delray Beach International.

At just 52 percent, the German fourth seed missed almost every other first serve but still had enough firepower to beat American Kevin Kim 7-6 6-3 to win his first round-robin match.

Eighth-seeded Vince Spadea sported metallic silver shorts for his evening match, and broke Germany's Simon Greul five times before winning 6-2 7-5.

''I served pretty well,'' Spadea told reporters.

''It was cold and I was stiff in the beginning but I got aggressive and found my serve back.'' Spadea, who lives in nearby Boca Raton, reached the semi-finals at Delray Beach last year before losing to eventual winner Tommy Haas of Germany.

Haas, semi-finalist at the Australian Open last week, plays later in the week. He is grouped with Taiwan's Lu Yen-hsun and powerful American teenager Sam Querrey.

Querrey breezed into the round-robin stage with an elimination match victory over Greece's Konstantinos Economidis 6-0 6-2. He needed just 16 minutes to race through the first set and wrapped matters up in 42 minutes.
