England and Germany to clash in Wembley friendly

LONDON, June 1 (Reuters) Historic rivals England and Germany will meet in a friendly at rebuilt Wembley on Aug 22, the Football Association said on its Web site.

Germany were the last senior international team to play at the old Wembley when they beat England 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in October 2000.

Four years earlier they defeated England on penalties in the semi-finals of Euro 96 at the same stadium.

Wembley also hosted the 1966 World Cup final when England triumphed 4-2 over West Germany in extra-time.

England play the first senior international at the new Wembley when they host former world champions Brazil on Friday.
