Divekar stuns Meenal Thakur
Mumbai, Aug 16 (UNI) P J Hindu Gymkhana marker Milind Divekar shocked Meenal Thakur to advance into the billiards third round in the Wilson Jones Open Handicap Billiards and Snooker Championship here today.
Continuing his giant-killing run in the competition, 25-year-old Divekar (+100) relied on consistency to prevail over his much accomplished rival in a close contest.
Another P J Hindu Gymkhana marker, Sandeep Teli (+55), also extended his winning ways when he upset Afshad Kelawala (+50) 126-79, 104-80 to storm into the snooker pre-quarter-finals.
On a day of significant breaks in billiards, P J Hindu Gymkhana's Chandresh Shah (-10) fired a brilliant 121 en route to a convincing 200-128 second round win over Kelawala (+90) who experienced a disastrous day.
Elphinstone Cricket Club's Arun Agrawal (-120) also constructed a 73 and 70 off consecutive visits to overcome Shivaji Park Gymkhana's Sanjay Patil (+80) 200-165 in the billiards second round.
In another upset, P J Hindu Gymkhana's Shyam Kotak overcame Harold Sylvester (+90) of Catholic Gymkhana 200-160 in the second round.
Harish Mirchandani (+35) of Otters Club advanced to the snooker quarter-finals when he rallied to beat Sahil Khan (+50) of Islam Gymkhana 82-114, 98-55, 113-76 in a keen contest between quality players.
