Digvijay overcomes Mukesh in SRF All-India Golf Matchplay

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) Digvijay Singh emerged victorious in one of the toughest matches of the day when he beat Mukesh Kumar in the second round of the SRF All-India Professional Matchplay Golf Championship at the Noida Golf Course here.

Top-seed Ashok Kumar continued his progress and qualified for the third round with a two-up win over youngster Gaganjeet Bhullar.

Meanwhile, Vivek Bhandari continued his impressive win and defeated Gurbaaz Mann on the 20th hole to progress into the next round.

Arjun Singh is also in good form and had little trouble in getting the better of Sujjan Singh, whom he beat on the 16th hole after he was three up with just two to play.

However, Harinder Gupta lost to Bangalore's S Madaiah on the 20th hole.

In the other matches today, Gurki Shergill beat Pappan on the 21 st hole, former winner Sanjay Kumar defeated Yusuf Ali on the 19th hole, AS Lehal carded a two up win over Karanjit S Sandhu, Sandip Syal beat Raju Ali.

Randhir Ghotra emerged victorious over current All-India champion Himmat S Rai with a score of six up with four to play while his brother, Ranjit Singh beat Anura Rohana on the 17th hole.

Amritinder Singh defeated Monish Bindra with a score of two up, Shamim Khan carded a comfortable victory over Jaiveer Virk after he was three up with two holes left to play, C Muniyappa beat Rajiv Datar five up and Delhi's Naman Dawar defeated Sachin Nigade on the 15 th hole.

Vinod Kumar beat GS Sethi one up in the last match of the day.

The field was further reduced to just 16 players today, who will play the third round, while eight professionals will play the quarterfinals both of which will be played tomorrow.

Only four professionals will proceed into the semi-finals and the championship will conclude with a 36-hole final on March 17.
