ANTWERP, Belgium, Feb 14 (Reuters) World number three Amelie Mauresmo is more than happy to ruin Kim Clijsters' last home appearance if it means she can win a racket worth 1 million euros ($1.31 million) at this week's Diamond Games.
The top seed will claim the diamond-studded racket if she wins the tournament for the third year in a row on Sunday.
But to achieve her goal, she will most likely have to beat home favourite Clijsters, whom she beat in last year's final.
Second seed Clijsters is embarking on an emotional week in which she will play on home soil for the last time after deciding to retire at the end of the season.
''The racket has added a lot of spice to an already spicy week with Kim's last appearance. At the end of last year's final you could feel that people were very disappointed and had wanted her (Clijsters) to win,'' Mauresmo told reporters on Wednesday.
''But you have to block that out and just concentrate on winning the game and that's what I will be doing if I get there again.
''It is very sad that Kim is stopping at the end of the year and she will be missed. She will be a great loss, but that's her decision and we must respect that.
The Wimbledon champion, who faces compatriot Virginie Razzano in the second round on Thursday, has had a slow start to 2007, losing her Australian Open title after a fourth round exit before reaching the semi-finals at the Paris Open last week.
''I am not concerned about my form. As I said last year when I was on top, every top player has a period where they are winning nearly every week and all you can do is keep trying to stay at the top,'' Mauresmo said.
''I always play well here and like the court, so hopefully I can put in some good perfomances this week. I am looking forward to my first match and I hope to get to the final.'' REUTERS KR KN2246
