DGP honours Asian Games medalists of Punjab Police

Chandigarh, Mar 6 (UNI) Punjab DGP R S Gill today honoured athlete Manjit Kaur and wrestler Palwinder Singh Cheema, both Inspectors in the state police, for their outstanding performance in the 15th Asian Games held recently at Doha, an official spokesman here stated.

The DGP presented two cheques of Rs 1,75,000 and Rs 1 lakh on behalf of All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB), New Delhi and Punjab Police to Harbhajan Singh, father of Manjit Kaur.

Similarly, two cheques of Rs 50,000 each were handed over to Palwinder Singh Cheema on behalf of Punjab Police and AIPSCB.

Manjit Kaur had won a gold medal in the 4x400 metre relay race and silver in 400 metre race. Cheema won a bronze medal in the 120 kg free style category.

A cheque of Rs 50,000 has also been received from AIPSCB for Punjab Police weightlifter Sarabjit Singh Kanda (plus 105 kg), who had improved his own national record of 203 kg by lifting 204 kg in the Senior National Weightlifting Championship held at Vishakapatnam from December 10 to 14 last year.
