DGC's junior training programme kicks off from April 30
New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) In its bid to nurture future golfing talents in the country, the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) is all set to kick off its 14-day long prestigious 21st Junior Training Programme (JTP) from April 30 here.
The JTP, which is a part of DGC's Talent Promotion Programme, would feature 220 youngsters in the age group of eight to 18 and will cover all aspects of the game including rules and etiquette, nutritional, mental and physical aspects of the game under the guidance of IGU-trained coaches Nonita Lall Qureshi, Romit Bose, Jasjit Singh and Vikram Sethi.
Announcing the start of the programme, captain of DGC Ranjit Chaudhri said, ''We are on the verge of achieving a milestone as the prestigious JTP of Delhi Golf Club is all set to enter its 21st year. It is committed towards the growth of the game in the country.'' Highlighting the necessisity of promoting the sports among the youngsters, Siddarth Shriram, chairman of Mawana Sugars and Usha, the main sponsors of the programme qouted champion golfer Tiger Woods words that ''The base of professional golf is set at the JTP level.'' He also cited the example of Woods, who started playing the game at the age of two and said the JTP has become an essential part of grooming young talents and that cannot be stopped now.
The JTP programme which is considered to be the breeding ground of Indian golfing stars like Gaurav Ghei, Sweede Daniel Chopra, Shiv Kapur, Ashok Kumar and Anjali Chopra, has been divided in four camps consisting 55 children each.
The DGC wich had hosted 14 tournaments in the year so far, will also organise a Junior Golf event immediately after the conclusion of the JTP from June 26. The tournament, which has been categorised by the Indian Golf Union is planned to attract not only the top junior golfing talents of the country but will also feature potential talents from the JTP programme.
