Dempo to leave for Gurgaon tomorrow for Super Cup match
Panaji, May 25 (UNI) Newly-crowned NFL Champions Dempo Sports Club will leave for Gurgaon tomorrow to play Federation Cup winners, Kolkata's Mohan Bagan in the Super Cup match scheduled on May 27.
The match will be contested for a prize money of Rs 10 lakh.
Dempo Sports Club coach-cum-secretary Armando Colaco, who had earlier opposed AIFF's move to schedule the Super Cup tie at Gurgaon, considering the soaring temperature there said ''We have decided to play at Gurgaon on Sunday in the interest of the sport.'' AIFF president Priya Ranjan Dasminshi had requested Shrinivas V Dempo, chairman of Dempo group of companies, who is also the President of Dempo Sports Club to ensure that Dempo makes it to Gurgaon.
The impasse between the Goan Club and the Federation came to an end as Dempo Chairman asked them to play the match at Gurgaon.
He also questioned AIFF's move to deny Dempo a chance to play the Super Cup match in Goa as in the past East Bengal and Mahindra were allowed to host matches in their respective home grounds in Kolkata and Mumbai.
Mr Colaco said, ''It also happened when Dempo won the NFL in 2005, and the AIFF without any rationale shifted the Super Cup tie to a far off destination in Kerala. Now it is in Gurgaon. This is unfair. I do not understand why AIFF is depriving a chance to play the Super Cup tie on home turf.'' UNI SRN KU SAM VV1347
