Dempo hold JCT to goalless draw in NFL
Ludhiana, Jan 22 (UNI) JCT failed to capitalise on the home advantage and were held to a goalless draw by Durand Cup champions Dempo Sports Club, Goa, in the fourth round tie of the 11th National Football League (NFL) at the Guru Nanak stadium here today.
After today's result, JCT with one loss, one win and two draws took their points tally to five. Dempo, with two wins, a loss and a draw, now have seven points.
Dempo who had beaten JCT by a solitary goal in the Durand Cup final in November last year, played to a plan, with their defence keeping a close watch on JCT's dangerious strikers -- Nigerian Edeh Chidi, Rennedy Singh and Sunil Chhetri.
The Goan strikers led by their Nigerian Ranti Martins looked far more dangerious during the occasional raids they made on the JCT citadel.
Satisfied by the result, Dempo coach Armando Colaco said, '' We held them to a draw on their home turf, which is satisfactory for us''.
On the other hand, JCT manager Parminder Singh felt that his side should have won the match.
