Delhi's Ashok Kumar wins IndianOil Masters golf
Digboi, Feb 3 (UNI) Delhi's Ashok Kumar displayed some thrilling golf to card a 14-under-par 274 and win the Rs 20 Lakh IndianOil XtraPremium Masters, which concluded at the Digboi Golf Course today.
Ashok was unstoppable as he picked up back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes to make the turn at two-under-par 34.
He continued to hole short putts for birdie on the 11th, 13th and 14th holes to get to five-under-par for the day before making a double bogey on the par-five 15th hole.
A birdie on the 16th, an unnecessary bogey on the 17th and a final birdie on the par-four 18th hole saw Ashok card a four-under-par 68 and seal his 11th victory on the domestic tour and take home a winner's cheque of Rs 3,24,000.
Promising yougsters Shamim Khan and Vikrant Chopra finished tied second at eight-under-par 280, while Yusuf Ali carded a three-under-par 69 in the final round to finish sole fourth at 281 and Shankar Das was fifth with his total of 283.
Bangalore golfers C Muniyapa and S Madaiah finished tied sixth at four-under-par for the week while tournament favourite Vijay Kumar was a further stroke behind and finished tied eighth alongwith Delhi's Vinod Kumar with a total of three-under-par, 285.
