Delhi and Haryana sail into the quarterfinals

Jaipur, Jan 12 (UNI) Delhi, Gujarat and Haryana boys sail into the quarterfinals of the 23rd Youth National Basketball Championship at the SMS Indoor hall here today.

Punjab, Tamilnadu and Madhya Pradesh cruised into the last eight in girls section, which would be played tomorrow.

Delhi whipped Maharashtra 106-74 after taking a lead of 57-27 at the breather. Sunil displayed brilliant shooting ability to score 28 while Sumit (18) and Vikas contributed 7 points for the Delhi.

Shinde was the top scorer for Maharashtra scoring 27 poionts. Shoib and Mani made 13 and 12 points respectively. Delhi now meet Punjab in the quarterfinals.

Gujarat had to struggle to beat Andra Pradesh 66-64 after leading 36-32 at the half time. Rikintehant was the star perfomer who made 33 points for the winner and Kamlesh contributed 10 points. Naveen made 27 and Maradona scored 12 points for the losers. Gujarat will take on Uttar Pradesh in the quarterfinal.

In other prequarterfinals of the boys section, Haryana overcame Orissa 100-87 after trailing 34-42 at the interval. Anil (29), Vinay (22) and Naveen (15) were the main contributors of Haryana while P M Kumar made 22, SR Ratha 15 and L Singh made 10 points for the Orissa. The winners would meet the defending champions Chhattisgarh in the last eight tie tomorrow.
