Defoe hails England's 'do-or-die' effort against Slovenia

Port Elizabeth, June 24(ANI): After the do-or-die World Cup clash against Slovenia, England striker Jermain Defoe has said that he is delighted with his performance which secured a place for the Three Lions in the last 16.

Defoe's 22nd-minute volley settled England's nerves, and was his first goal for his country since he scored against the same opposition at Wembley last September.

"I'm lost for words. What a moment, it was brilliant. As a young lad you dream about doing it one day," The Sun quoted Defoe, as saying.

""It was a must-win game, a cup final, so you do approach the game differently. The lads were fired up. We said in the changing room to set the tempo, put them under pressure," he added.

The 27-year-old further said that he could have scored one more goal with a close-range shot in the second half.

"I was disappointed because I should have done better, but we won the game so I'm delighted," he added.

England went through the knockout stage by beating Slovenia 1-0, and will now play Germany in Bloemfontein on Sunday. (ANI)
