Deccan XI go down to Bharat Electronics
Pune, Feb 22 (UNI) Deccan XI 'A' walked with their heads held high despite losing to Bharat Electronics, Bangalore 0-1 in the IV All India Abhijeet Kadam Memorial Football Cup 2007.
At the Bharati Vidyapeeth ground, Deccan had their chances, particularly the gilt-edged chance Varun had in the 24th minute.
With Prashant Pardeshi floater from the right proving a perfect opportunity, Varun simply lacked direction.
Bharat Electronics, marginally superior throughout the game, were threatening but chose not to go all out in the first half.
In the second half, Deccan seemed to have lost the gusto they played with earlier as their opponents suddenly seemed to find a lot of wide spaces. In the 47thst minute, Bharat Electronics' had Robert F crash his try on the horizontal. With the ball still not out of danger, Sriniwas Murthy who picked up the ball outside the box laid-up Sharif K with a perfect pass. Sharif with a low drive to the left ended Deccan's brave run.
Earlier, Globe FC, Hyderabad and PIFA-Colaba Young Stars, Mumbai decided their encounters against Central Railways, Pune and Indrayani SC, Dehu Road with individual heroics. First Hassan Bin Mahsan helped Globe register a 4-2 win in a match that saw two penalties and three yellow cards be flashed. Later, PIFA Colaba Young Stars, Mumbai had Camilo Noronah net four, including a hat-trick, to decimate Indrayani SC.
All the winners entered the pre-quarterfinals.
