Debashree Mazumdar axed from World meet despite winning gold at Asian meet, vows to come back
Kolkata, July 31: Debashree Mazumdar has been ruled out of the Indian women's relay squad for the upcoming World Championship in spite of the fact that she won a gold medal as one of the members of the Indian women's relay squad in the recently concluded Asian Athletics Championship in Bhubaneswar.
The 26-year-old athlete has been given a bizarre explanation behind her omission from the squad.

Debashree, speaking from her village in Nadia district in West Bengal on Sunday, said, “A query regarding my omission had been sent to Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and the reply from the AFI said that, I have been axed due to my non-participation in the 57th Inter-state championship in Gutur, immediately after the Asian meet.
"That is why the AFI selection committee has made average score on my name and decided that my position in the Indian relay team as a whole is seventh!
Despite being at the fifth position in the Indian relay ranking, I have been given a seventh spot by the AFI selection committee."
But Debashree does not want to move to court by following the way Kerala's OP Chitra is trying to move.
Rather Debashree asserted, “I will be training strongly and better my timing so that AFI is forced to include me into the squad before the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games next year."
The athlete who is now is on a leave till August 8 felt her timing in the individual 400 meters will improve more with the joining of famous American coach Galina Bukharina for the 400 meter, exclusively.
Debashree said, “We have been training under Galina for only last two months and within such a short time we have been noticing some improvement. I am hopeful that with more training under this renowned ladies coach, my present timing in the 400 meter (53.59 seconds) will reduce."
