Dealing with dropped players toughest part of being captain: Dravid
Bangalore, Feb 24 (UNI) He may be called 'The Wall' but even Rahul Dravid develops cold feet while telling a teammate that he has been dropped and the Team India skipper says the hardest part of the job is trying to explain the reasons of the axe to that dejected player.
''One of the challenges faced by the leader of the team is to tell a team member that he has been dropped from the final XI. One has to convince the player that he was not dropped because he was not fit, but to improve his performance for inclusion in the next match,'' Dravid said while participating in a dicussion on team building organised by the Skyline Housing and Construction Pvt Ltd.
Even though the team is picked by selectors, it is the responsibility of the skipper to convey the message to the dropped player.
''We have to take into account the popularity of the dropped player, his fans and everythig else...it is the toughest job,'' he explained.
Another challange, according to Dravid, is motivatiing a player.
''More and more challenges should be given instead of making the player stagnant. New challenges should be given to motivate a player,'' he added.
