Cycling legend Hoy, who has won six Olympic gold medals, was stopped by a steward and asked for identification to enter the arena named after him (Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome) on the opening day (July 24) of competition at CWG, British media reported. Hoy was to commentate on cycling events.
The steward later apologised on TV for her mistake. She told a BBC 5live reporter: "Please, please can you apologise to him". She said Hoy was on the phone when he arrived at the venue.
"I didn't realise who he was. My mum is going to kill me!," she added.
Hoy, however, defended the steward, as he tweeted "She was just doing her job!!."
