Coroner's inquest on Woolmer death slated for October 16
Kingston, Jamaica, Aug 30 (UNI) The long-awaited coroner's inquest into the death of late Pakistan coach, Bob Woolmer, has been scheduled for October 16 at the Jamaica Conference Centre here.
Coroner Patrick Murphy, who will preside over the inquest, will take into account more than 50 witnesses that will seek to determine the circumstances under which th 58-year-old Englishman died during the Caribbean World Cup on March 18, the Jamaica Gleaner reported.
Meanwhile, the commission headed headed by former High Court judge Ian Forte, set up to do an administrative review of the Woolmer death investigation, is yet to submit its findings to the National Security Ministry.
The commission was set up on June 31 and was expected to present its report to the ministry by July 31, but till date it has not submitted its findings as Justice Forte and his team had asked for a an extended time till August 14.
Woolmer, was found unconscious in his Kingston hotel room, a day after Pakistan was shown the exit door from the World Cup by minnows Ireland.
Later, acting on autopsy findings, Jamaica police initially said the gizmo-freak coach died due to manual strangulation and started a murder investigation.
However, they made a U-turn from their initial statement later and said that Woolmer died a natural death.
