Coaches are not magicians or rocket scientists: Dravid

Dhaka, May 9 (UNI) Team India captain Rahul Dravid says coaches are no miracle men who would bring about sea changes to a side in a short time, but the team is enjoying their time with cricket manager Ravi Shastri.

''You can't do magic in a three or four-day camp. But Ravi (Shastri) has played cricket and commented all around the world and has seen the game from close quarters. He has great knowledge about the game and he is constantly speaking to us and we are enjoying the sessions. The time spent with him is valuable,'' was Dravid's take on the team's stint with Shastri.

On what changes the new coaching staff has brought with them, he said, ''These are early days. You have to give it more time.

But we seem to have a good understanding. The coaches have a role to play.'' ''But they are not responsible for everything. They can help you prepare, but cannot play for you,'' he said.

On whether there was any tangible change in the style of coaching, Dravid said, ''It's not rocket science we are talking about, are we? Greg (Chappell) and Ian Fraser did their best with the team. The current support staff is doing the same.

It does not happen in two to three days. Besides, you play depending on the talents you have in the side.'' Greg Chappell resigned as Team India coach after India's disastrous World Cup campaign and Ravi Shastri was appointed manager for the Bangladesh tour. For the first time ever, India has a bowling coach in Venkatesh Prasad and a fielding coach in Robin Singh on tour.
