CLTA to disburse scholarship of Rs 57,500
Chandigarh, Apr 7 (UNI) Four talented CLTA trainees --- Vijayant Malik, Sanam K Singh, Kinshuk Sharma and Shiva Sangwan -- have qualified for the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association scholarships for their brilliant performance in the international and national tournaments last year.
CLTA chairman Rajan Kashyap said that Vijayant Malik topped the list of performance-based cash scholarships. The winner of ITF (Grade 4) in November in Mumbai and winner of the DSCL Nationals (Under-16) in New Delhi last year will receive scholarship worth Rs 30,000.
Lanky Malik, who hails from Haryana, will also receive cash scholarship of Rs 10,000 each from the CLTA, the Army authorities and former tennis player Aakash Sharma. The additional benefits were announced during the prize distribution function of the ITF Junior (Grade 3) tournament held at the CLTA Stadium in December last.
Vijayant had finished finalist.
Former junior international Sanam K Singh who finished semi-finalist in the men's singles of the DSCL Nationals last year will receive a cash award of Rs 15,000.
Budding Kinshuk Sharma, winner of the ITF (Grade 4) in Mumbai in November last year will receive a cash scholarship of Rs 5,000.
Shiva Sangnwan, finalist in doubls of the DSCL National in New Delhi will get a scholarship of Rs 7,500.
Rajan Kashyap also announced two scholarships for the budding girl players of the CLTA from this year.
The CLTA has so far disbursed scholarships worth Rs 1,65,000 since 2003. For the last year session, a sum of Rs 57,500 would be awarded.
The CLTA today announced 'New Year 2007' bonus of cash incentive to the CLTA players who finish among winners and semi-finalists in the ITF Junior World Ranking (Group 3) Tennis Tournament which begins on Monday at the CLTA Stadium.
Under the scholarship scheme, a CLTA trainee who wins the ITF Junior (Grade 1, 2 and 3), is entitled for a cash award of Rs 30,000 and the finalist Rs 20,000. The sem-finalist will get Rs 10,000.
The winner (men and women) in the DSCL Nationals will receive Rs 40,000 and finalist Rs 25,000. The semi-finalist will receive Rs 15,000.
