Chirag uproot Sporting 2-1

Kolkata, Aug 20 (UNI) Chirag United SC today defeated Mohammedan Sporting 2-1 in the Kolkata Premier League here today.

With only four points in five KPL matches the black-and-white brigade seems to be in tight spot in its journey towards finishing within the first five in the League this season. However, United SC, that took its points to eight from the same number of matches, has ensured fourth spot so far in the KPL.

Chirag's midfielders as well as the two forwards Shankar Oraon and Theo Tore Sunday were so consistent and agile that Sporting defense and custodian Gautam Das had to be in unyielding stress almost throughout the match.

For Mohameddan Sporting, the only exception was experienced Basudeb Mondol. Even such an obtrusive ground condition couldn't stop Mondol from sending his usual winning passes, a few brilliant free kicks as well as excellent effort to fester the build-up of United SC attacks in the central midfield area.

Sporting would have won the match if it had at least one penetrative striker like either Shankar Orao or Theo Tore Sunday.

Mohammed Zubair was far away from perfection.

Theo Tore drew first blood for United SC in the 30th minute. He controlled a Dhanarajan free kick in the six-yard box so brilliantly that evaded his marker SK Azim and then jabbed through the far post.

Nirapada Mondol equalized for Sporting in the 37 th minute via a superb right footed volley after a perfect chest trap of a Luis Nigi clearance outside the 18-yard box.

Shankar Oraon finally struck the winner in the 70th minute.

Receiving a Theo initiative down the middle, Oraon had a solo few yards run, splitting Sporting defense to play an one-twos again with advancing Theo inside the box before placing in.
