Chirag pip SBT 1-0, top the league table
Duler, Mar 16 (UNI) A solitary goal in the first half by Lalmalswma Hmar was enough for Chirag United (Kolkata) to get the better of State Bank of Travancore (SBT), Kerala, to move to the top of the table with 11 points in their last round match of the ONGC Second Division National Football League (NFL) tie at Mapusa in North Goa.
The all-important goal for Chirag United came in the second minute which ultimately turned out to be the match winner.
Unbeaten Chirag, which have already qualified for the final round, topped the table with 11 points from five outings, with 3 wins and 2 draws and relegated local Vasco Sports Club to second place with 9 points from three wins and two defeats.
The third team for the final round in the Goa leg will be decided tomorrow, when Oil&Natural Gas Commission (ONGC), Mumbai with 7 points clashes with South East Central Railway (SECR) with 5 points in their last match of the round five. A draw will be sufficent for ONGC, while SECR needs an outright win.
SBT, with 4 points, and Punjab Police, with 3 points, are out of the race as only first three teams will qualify for the final phase to be played in Kerala.
