Chennai Veerans gain sweet revenge over Lions
Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) Chennai Veerans today gained a sweet revenge over defending champions Bangalore Lions by defeating them with a 3-0 margin in the third edition of the Premier Hockey League being played at the floodlit Sector 42 Astroturf Stadium here tonight.
Veerans had suffered a 6-1 humiliation on the Chennai leg of the PHL.
On Tuesday, Chennai Veerans were an inspired lot with the reinforcement of Suresh Kumar, who joined his team on Monday after playing in the National Games. He and Adam Sinclair repeatedly pierced the Bangalore Lions defence with quick exchanges of passes.
Suresh Kumar was adjudged the Lion of the Match.
Adam Sinclair had his hand in all three goals Chennai Veerans had socred today to avenge their Chennai defeat. It was Sinclair who put his team on the victory path in thre 14th minute. Suresh Kumar sent a measured cross from top of the dee to Adam Sinclair to give the finishing touches. Mounting a relentless pressure, Chennai Veerans found the object again in the next two minutes. Initiating an eye-pleasing move, Adam Sinclair sent a good supply to Spanish player Albert Casas who made no mistake.
Bangalore Lions were able to force two penalty corners in quick succession in the 41st and 42nd minute. But they wasted these. On the first occasion, Vinaya VS was unable to stop the ball after Tushar Khandekar had taken the push.
After thwarting the Bangalore Lions efforts, Chennai Veerans struck again to affirm their supremacy by scoring their third goal in the 52nd minute. It was Adam Sinclair who engineering the move before sending it Suresh Kumar to do the rest.
