Chennai allotted World Cup Qualifying matches

Chennai, May 12 (UNI) Chennai is being considered by Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and All India Football Federation (AIFF) to host the World Cup Qualifying matches from February next year, AIFF Vice-President and Tamil Nadu Football Association(TFA) President C R Visswanathan announced today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said it is for the first time that such a proposal was being mooted by FIFA and added FIFA designation official Mr Khan DAto Dell Akbar who is also the Security Officer of Asian Football Confederation, will inspect the venue for the matches in the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.

The examination would be with reference to security and safety aspects in particular, he said.

He said a Security Seminar will be held on May 17, for persons and departments concerned with security aspects for the preliminary matches.

Delegates from AIFF, TFA and Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), Fire and Rescue Services Department, Police, Security Officers, Stadium Officer and Red Cross, will attend the seminar, he said.
