Chappell hints experimentation may continue in World Cup
Mumbai, Feb 27 (UNI) Greg Chappell today hinted that his much-maligned policy of experimentation might continue in the Caribbean as well with the India coach opining that flexible sides will do well in the World Cup.
''We will be playing in different countries. Which means, teams with most options and flexibility will do well,'' the coach told reporters at a pre-departure conference here.
''The main teams are very even and there are going to be close games. Pressure will be on and that is where our experience and flexibility will come into play,'' he said.
Chappell said Team India's preparations were complete and the players were all set to take on the best in the business once the cricketing carnival begins in the West Indies. India open its campaign against Bangladesh on March 17.
''We have a good variety in both batting and bowling and have cover for all the players and all the key positions. Now it is upto the players to execute their qualities on the field.
''We have a team which is fit and has been playing well and we also have some kind of knowledge of the West Indian wickets having toured there last May, which will be an advantage to us,'' Chappell added.
Chappell, however, cautioned all teams not to take defending champions Australia lightly in wake of their recent defeats.
''In fact, the Aussies will come back harder and stronger with some of their main players back. Now they will be even more hungry to retain their trophy,'' Chappell said.
Skipper Rahul Dravid also echoed his coach's opinion as he tipped Ricky Ponting's team the favourites to lift the cup.
