Chakvetadze takes women's title in den Bosch

AMSTERDAM, June 23 (Reuters) Russia's Anna Chakvetadze beat injury-hit top seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia 7-6 3-6 6-3 to win the women's singles title at the Den Bosch Open today.

Jankovic struggled with a hamstring injury and at times appeared visibly in pain in a final frequently interrupted by rain showers.

She said after the match the rain had caused her more disruption than her opponent because her injury had made it harder to keep stopping and starting.

Jankovic started poorly and allowed third seed Chakvetadze to take a 5-0 lead in the opening set before she fought back and forced a tie-break, which the 20-year-old Russian won.

World number three Jankovic rallied to take the second set but Chakvetadze took control again in the deciding third set.

''I had a very good start... Jelena came back very strongly in the second set but I got lucky at the start of the third set,'' Chakvetadze, ranked eighth in the world, said.

Earlier, Dutchman Peter Wessels beat fellow non-seed Antony Dupuis of France 7-6 7-6 in the men's semi-finals and will face second seed Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia in tomorrow's final.

Wessels knocked out top seed Tommy Robredo of Spain in the quarter-finals.
