Celtic win Scottish Cup to clinch the double
GLASGOW, May 26 (Reuters) Celtic beat Dunfermline 1-0 with a late winner by Cameroon defender Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe to win the Scottish FA Cup today and secure the 14th league and cup double in their 119 year history.
Doumbe settled a disappointing final with a scrappy goal to settle an untidy match when he scraped an angled 14 metre shot from the right of the penalty area past goalkeeper Dorus de Vries, who had been on top form throughout the match.
Celtic have now lifted the Cup 34 times after winning three of the past four finals and the victory came in skipper Neil Lennon's last match for the club following seven years' service.
Relegated Dunfermline had the first chance after three minutes when former Celtic forward Mark Burchill burst free on the left only to blaze his shot across goal from close range.
Ten minutes later De Vries dived bravely at the feet of Celtic's Kenny Miller to thwart the Scottish Premier League champions.
Dunfermline came close again when Scott Morrison let fly with a 25-metre freekick that dipped just over the bar on to the roof of the net in 25 minutes.
Celtic responded with Miller curling in a fine cross from the right on the half hour mark for Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink to power a diving header beyond the far post from 10 metres.
De Vries kept his side in the reckoning with two good second half saves as Celtic surged forward trying to open the scoring.
He blocked Miller's diving header from eight metres following a cross on the left by Aiden McGeady just after the break.
De Vries then managed to stop a rasping shot from defender Lee Naylor who fastened on to a flick from Vennegoor of Hesselink at the edge of the box in the 62nd minute.
But with the match drifting towards extra time, substitute Craig Beattie and Japanese midfielder Shunuske Nakamura prised open the Dunfermline defence before Doumbe seized on the ball in a goalmouth scramble to fire the winner with five minutes left.
