Bright future ahead for Pak golfers: Johl
Karachi, Jan 18 (UNI) With right training and sponsorship it wouldn't be too long before Pakistani golfers match the exploits of Indians in the Asian Tour, feels Amandeep Johl, who regards local veteran Taimur Hassan as his 'guru'.
''I have played alongside Pakistani golfers over the years and it is visible that they have the talent. The only thing they need is the right kind of training and corporate support,'' Johl was quoted as saying by 'The News'.
Here to participate in the Pakistan Open, Johl said the local golfers need financial backing to match their neighbours like Jeev Milkha Singh and Shiv Kapur, who have made rapid strides at the international level.
''Pakistan is not far behind India in golf. It is only that we took some important steps like coaching our coaches ten years back and Pakistan have only started to do that now,'' he said.
''What these golfers need are sponsors who can fund their trips abroad because that is one thing that can really make a difference,'' he explained.
