Breathing space for NSG as African commandos join hands to guard CWC
Bridgetown, Barbados, Apr 15 (UNI) The elite commandos of Indian National Security Guards (NSG) stationed in the Caribbean can have some breather now, as their South African counterparts have joined them to protect the ongoing World Cup from any terrorist threat.
The South African commandos from Cape Town have stationed themselves at Grenada, while the two units of NSG commandos have shifted their base to Barbados for the ongoing leg of the tournament there.
Meanwhile, considering the magnitude of its police force, the authorities of Barbados have also brought in armed forces from Bermuda as well as Grenada to mantain the law and order situation during the next few weeks as more than 10000 tourists are expected to assemble in the island nation at that time.
Although the NSG commandos have earlier admitted that the external risk factor is minimum, but stil the authorities seemed to be in no mood to take chances as far as security is concerned.
Till last week, the 16-member commando unit of NSG was divided into two groups of eight people and one group was positioned at Guyana and another was at Antigua where the Super Eight matches were being played.
Armed with latest weapons as well as computers besides bomb detecting device, the commando force was specially flown from India at the request of the CARICOM authorities.
