Big names secure easy wins in 54th National Boxing Champ

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) The second day of the 54th Senior Men National Boxing Championship saw no major upsets, with Doha Asiad bronze medalist Jai Bhagwan, World Cadet champion Balbir Singh, Asian Cadet champion Sanjay Kolte and reigning National champion Bijender Singh all securing easy victories in their respective category here today.

In the lightweight category (60kg), Railway's Jai Bhagwan easily thrashed Chandigarh lad Vikas's challenge 30-6.

Using his height advantage, Bhagwan kept his opponent off balance with clean straight punches right through the bout and ended the first two rounds with a clean chit against his name -- 5-0 and 15-0 respectively.

The third round was no different as he continued to dominate his opponet to end with 23-5 lead.

At no point of time in the bout, Bhagwan was under any pressure and used his international experience to great effect to eventually clinch the encounter at 30-6.

In the light-flyweight category (48kg), another Railway man, World Cadet champion Balbir Singh beat Bengal's Bishnu 16-5, while Asian Cadet champion Sanjay Kolte of Services outscored Uttaranchal's Sarju in round three.

Meanwhile, in the bantamweight category (54kg), reigning National champion and World cupper Bijender Singh of Railways warded off Jharkhand lad Inder Kumar's challenge 23-12.
