Betis and coach part company with one game left to play

MADRID, June 11 (Reuters) Relegation-threatened Real Betis have parted company with coach Luis Fernandez following the team's 5-0 defeat at home to Osasuna this weekend.

The club said on their Web site that the board of directors had reached a mutual agreement with the former French international to rescind his contract which was due to expire at the end of June.

Reserve team coach Paco Chaparro will take charge of the side for the final league match at Racing Santander next Sunday.

Defeat at home to Osasuna, which left Betis just one point above the relegation zone, was followed by angry scenes with the crowd invading the pitch, tearing up seats and calling for the departure of owner Manuel Ruiz de Lopera.

Fernandez, who has coached at Paris St.Germain, Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao, took charge of the team in December after Javier Irureta threw in the towel after just six months at the helm.
