Bangladesh fall one short of English record of using four keepers
Dhaka, May 26 (UNI) Bangladesh might have done poorly in the second Test against India, but they almost eclipsed a record of using four wicket-keepers in an innings of a Test match, set by the English team in 1986 against New Zealand.
In 1986, England used four wicket-keepers in New Zealand's first innings at Lords after appointed keeper, Bruce French got injured during England's first innings.
Bill Athey then kept for the first two overs before veteran Bob Taylor was pulled out of the sponsors tent to keep, immaculately, for 73 overs from over number three to 76th.
Later, Hampshire keeper Bobby Parks was called up to keep wickets from 77th over to 140th after which French returned for the final ball of the day.
Today, Bangladesh used three wicket keepers in Khaled Mashud, Rajen Saleh and Shakib-al-Hasan.
Khaled Mashud went into the dressing room dehydrated at the first drinks break after lunch, when Rajen Saleh came in to keep the wickets.
Saleh kept stumps for some eight overs before Shakib al Hasan took over.
India soon declared their innings at 610 for three wickets.
Mashud did not return to keep stumps nor did he come out to bat as Bangladesh lost five for 58 at stumps.
